The design engineer will oversee the development of machine concepts from initial concept through development, testing, and ongoing operation and refinement. Design engineers will lead requirements gathering and constraint identification for new machine concepts. They will develop 3D models, analyze resulting stress, and construct prototypes. Once designs are validated, the design engineer will work with outside firms to fabricate and assemble components and commission the resulting machine. Once in operation, the engineer will also work with operations to understand the behaviors of the machine and propose design modifications to improve the machines for subsequent versions. Experience with 3D design tools, control system programming, and fabrication are desirable.
